Maoists offer 72-day conditional ceasefire?

The Maoists have made a 72 days conditional offer of cease fire. The offer of cease fire from the 25th of this month to 7th of May is on the condition that the Government stops Operation Green Hunt launched against the rebels. The offer comes a few days after the Home Minister; Mr. P. Chidambaram had said that if they halted violence for 72 hours the government would be ready for talks with them. Maoist leader Koteshwar Rao alias Kishanji said that the State governments and the Centre should not indulge in violence between the 72 day period and concentrate on development of tribal areas . He said that this will be reciprocated by Maoists. Kishanji said over phone from an undisclosed place that they want intellectuals and human right activists to mediate between them and the Government. In New Delhi, according to government spokesman the Government is likely to react to the offer on Tuesday.
