Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has asserted that the presence of the Maoists and their nexus with other terrorist outfits of the Northeast region is now out in the open following the encounter at Sadiya along Arunachal Pradesh border.Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, he claimed that the Maoists were spreading their wings by establishing their network in all the upper Assam districts and were then planning to spread in the lower Assam areas. He asserted that there were reports that the Maoists were also receiving training from other militant outfits of the region like NSCN(IM).But this, Gogoi said, was not within Assam and they were taking advantage of the prevailing ceasefire conditions with the outfits. He also urged the Centre to extend the same support to the region, like special schemes and joint operations as being given to the Naxal-affected states in tackling the problem.The Assam Government has also taken action to check black marketing and diversion of domestic cooking gas cylinders for commercial purposes. State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has directed the Food and Civil Supplies Department and Kamrup district administration to take immediate action against the defaulters in view of shortage of LPG cylinders in different districts including the Guwahati city.The Chief Minister instructed the officials to set up complaint cells under supervision of an Additional Deputy Commissioner in each district immediately to deal with public grievances relating to shortage of LPG cylinders and initiate action accordingly. He also directed the district authorities to make random checking of LPG cylinder carriers to ensure that they have proper and authentic documents.
