In Bihar, the rail traffic on Patna-Howrah rail section has been restored after 15 hours. The movement of trains on this rail section was paralysed following blowing up of railway track by Maoists in Jamui district of the state. Over one dozen trains have been cancelled in view of the Maoist bandh. Railways have deployed additional security forces in those trains which are passing through Bihar. The patrolling has been intensified along railway track to ensure safe journey. Director General of Police Anand Shankar has asked Maoists to shun violence and come forward for talks with Government.

It may be noted that Maoists have called the 72-hour bandh call in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa and Chhattisgarh to protest against the proposed Operation Green Hunt to be launched by the Centre against them. The shutdown comes ahead of Tuesday's meeting of chief ministers of these states to be chaired by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in Kolkata. AIR Patna correspondent reports that the State Government has cancelled the leave of all Police officials in view of bandh and they are directed to maintain strict vigil to avoid any untoward incident. Normal life in rural areas of Maoist affected districts was paralysed during bandh.

In Jharkhand, at least seven passenger trains have been cancelled while four others, including the Ranchi-New Delhi Rajdhani Express are being diverted. The State Authority has been put on high alert in the wake of Maoists bandh.

Meanwhile, the bandh call given by Maoists has little impact on normal life of the people in Orissa. However, just before the bandh call, suspected Maoists gunned down one person at Chandiposh under Banki Police Station of Sundergarh district late last night. The BJP has immediately demanded security for the common people and leaders in Sundergarh district considering the Maoist menace there. In Gajapati district, Maoists have blocked roads at Lundurna of Sherapalli panchayat in Mohana block by felling big trees. Bus services from the area to other parts of the State have been completely paralysed following this. There has been no reports of any untowards incidents from other Maoist-hit districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Kandhamal.
