In Odisha, Maoists today blew up a railway track and set afire at least nine dumpers in tribal-dominated Sundargarh district on the first day of a two-day bandh call given by the red rebels. They triggered a landmine blast damaging a stretch of railway track at a place between Renjeda and Roxy railway station, about 90 km from the steel city of Rourkela. However, no one has been injured in the blast that took place in Rourkela-Kirbur railway section. No damage has also been caused to a goods train on the route as its vigilant driver stopped it after noticing the damaged track. Movement of goods trains carrying iron ore and other materials to Rourkela Steel Plant has been affected.In an another incident, the Maoists also set afire at least nine dumpers at Chunaghati on National Highway under Koida police station in Sundargarh district.Maoists have called the country-wide bandh against alleged security excesses and release of senior cadre leaders from jail. Life has also been affected in other Maoist-affected districts like Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Kandhamal during the bandh as buses stopped plying and most private vehicles went off the roads. Security has been tightened in Maoist stronghold areas with deployment of force.
