‘ Maoists blow up railway track in Jharkhand

In Jharkhand, Maoists are on rampage killing persons and blowing up railway tracks despite tight security arrangements amidst their call for 48 hours bandh in the state from today. The two persons were killed and seven injured in a bomb blast triggered by Maoists in East Singhbhum district of the state. Superintend of Police N. K. Singh said, the incident occurred at Bodam under Patmada police station of the district when the deceased tried to pull aside a tree trunk to clear the traffic on the road. The tree was cut down by the Maoists to lay across the road and obstruct traffic during bandh. AIR Ranchi correspondent reports that Maoists blew up railway tracks between Dania and Jageshwar Bihar Railway Station under Dhanbad Rail Division. Rail traffic on this track was badly paralysed. Traffic on Rourkela-Ranchi section also remains affected following damage of tracks in Simdega district, 20 kilometres from Bano Railway Station. Security forces have reached to the spots and efforts are on to restore the rail traffic.<br/><br/>The Maoists are demanding that the police produce their Zonal Committee leader Ashok Mahto before the court and media. The State Police spokesperson V.H. Deshmukh told our correspondent that the Ranchi police has not arrested the Maoist leader. So, question to produce him before the court does not arise.
