A high level central team, headed by union Home Secretary R K Singh, today reached Raipur and began discussions with senior civil and police officials of Chhattisgarh Government in the wake of Saturday’s Maoist attack that led to the killing of 28 people, including senior Congress leaders, in tribal Bastar region.
Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Sunil Kumar, Director General of Police Ramniwas, state principal secretary (Home) N K Aswal and other officials are attending the meeting.
Meanwhile, a six member team of National Investigation Agency (NIA), probing a Maoist attack case for the first time, has already reached Jagdalpur.
In another development, Maoists ambushed a joint team of Border Security Force – BSF and district police force during a patrolling on Durgkondal- Pakhanjur road in tribal Kanker district of Bastar region of Chhattisgarh today morning. Police sources said a BSF constable was seriously injured in this Maoist attack. The injured constable has been airlifted to a hospital in the state capital.
Meanwhile, former Union Minister and Congress leader V C Shukla is reported to be stable but in a critical condition. Shukla who was injured in a naxal attack in Chattisgarh last Saturday is awake and responding to treatment. Dr Naresh Trehan of the Medanta Medicity Hospital in Gurgaon where Shukla is undergoing treatment said the next 24 hours are critical for Shukla and hoped for more improvement in his condition.
