The Chhattisgarh government has suspended the Bastar Superintendent of Police Mayank Shrivastava in connection with Saturday's Maoist attack on Congress leaders. Disclosing this in Raipur yesterday, Secretary, Public Relations, Aman Singh also said that the Inspector General of Police Himanshu Gupta and the Collector Bastar P. Anbalgan have been transferred. Ajay Yadav will be the new SP of Bastar district and Arun Deo Gautam the IG.
The State Government has also appointed Justice Prashant Mishra, a sitting judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, to hold the enquiry into the attack. He will submit a report within three months.
Earlier, Union Home Secretary RK Singh held discussions with the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh in Raipur on the situation arising out of the attack, and counter-Maoist strategies to be adopted in the state.
Chief Minister Raman Singh has called an all party meeting on Thursday to discuss the situation and steps needed to contain it.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency team, probing the attack, visited the ambush spot near Darbha as part of the investigations.
