Manohar Parrikar resigns as Goa Chief Minister

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is set to become the Union Minister, today tendered his resignation from the post. Mr Parrikar faxed his resignation to State Governor Mridula Sinha at Raj Bhavan this afternoon. He told media personnel that the swearing-in of the new CM would be held at 4 PM. With the resignation of Parrikar, entire state cabinet comprising 12 ministers was dissolved.

Meanwhile, the BJP Legislative party meeting is underway to elect the leader for the top post as Goa CM. Sources have said that Goa Health Minister Mr Laxmikant Parsekar will be named as the new Chief Minister of Goa. On the other hand, Goa Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza who had staked claim for the chief ministerial post, today said he is still hopeful of getting the top job. However, he said that he would obey the party's decision. Mr D’Souza had said Friday that he will not join the cabinet if not made CM.
