BJP leader and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today alleged that Congress Party and the UPA government is responsible for closure of all mining related activity in the state. Addressing a party press conference in Panaji today Parrikar said BJP would initiate a review of the Kasturirangan committee report on the ecological concerns of the Western Ghat, if BJP led government came to power at the Centre.

Parrikar said the report is partisan and was based on hearsay evidence and needs to be reviewed with scientific methods. He also said the union ministry of enviornment has cancelled all environmental clearances for all mines in Goa and therefore even if the Supreme Court lifts the ban on legal mining in Goa mining will not be able to start again. Mining in Goa has been banned for last two years .
