Manohar Parrikar, 9 others elected unopposed to RS from UP

In Uttar Pradesh, all 10 candidates including Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar were elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha today. Pradeep Duby, Principal secretary Legislative assembly who is also Returning officer for Rajya Sabha election declared the result at Lucknow. Among prominent who were present to receive certificates at Vidhan Sabha today are Ram Gopal Yadav, PL Punia and Neeraj Shekhar. Today was the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers and after passing the time limit of withdrawal, the result was declared.

Our Lucknow correspondent reports that a total of 11 nominations were filed, but After scrutiny, the nomination of one aspirant Qamar Ahmad was rejected as his papers were not found up to the mark and only 10 candidates were left in the fray for as many seats (10 seats). Besides Manohar Parrikar,other candidates elected unopposed in biennial election for Rajya Sabha in Uttar Pradesh are Ram Gopal Yadav- General Secretary of Samajwadi party, Tazeem Fatima, Neeraj Shekhar, son of former prime minister Chandrashekhar, Ravi Prakash Verma, Javed Ali Khan and Chandrapal Singh Yadav, PL Punia, Raja Ram and Veer Singh.
