Newly appointed Information and Broadcasting Minister Mr Manish Tiwari stressed on the need for broader consensus on the issue of paid news phenomena. He said that the serious issue of paid news has been discussed widely with all stake holders including political parties and a consensus has to be arrived at.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Sunday, he maintained that self regulation is the best regulation and all stakeholders will have to take steps to move up to that trajectory.
When asked about the UPA-II getting adverse publicity and his plan of action, Mr Tiwari denied any plan to curb the media. He thanked Prime Minister for giving him this opportunity.
After his appointment as the Union Minister, Mr Tewari visited Congress headquarters and met senior leaders including AICC General Secretary and Media Department in-charge Janardan Dwivedi.
In reply to question on reshuffle in the Congress party, Mr. Tiwari said Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will take the necessary decisions.
He said that he will try to evolve consensus on all contentious issues in his ministry to take things forward.
