Manipur Violence: Four houses set ablaze by public in New Checkon; curfew relaxation cut down

<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">In Manipur, four houses were set ablaze by an angry public in New Checkon Area of Imphal East District this afternoon. The incident happened after some armed persons threatened the shopkeepers to close down shops in the area. The police have arrested three people including a Kuki ex MLA along with arms and ammunition which were used to threaten the shopkeepers.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"> </p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">The security forces rushed to the New Checkon Area and dispersed the angry mob and the District Administration of Imphal East district cut short the relaxation of curfew upto one pm instead of four pm. No untoward incidents have happened afterward till the filing of this report.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"> </p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, the Security Advisor to Manipur Government Kuldeep Singh has informed that the security forces will conduct raids in the area and arrest those who are connected to the violent incident.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"> </p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh appealed to the public to remain calm and requested not to believe the fake news spread in connection to the violent incident that happened in the State. Speaking to media persons at his Secretariat this evening, he said that the State government has requested the Centre government to provide an additional twenty companies of para-military force.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"> </p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">He also condemned the incident of alleged manhandling of media persons by security forces in New Checkon Area today. The Security Advisor to the Manipur Government has been instructed to advise the paramilitary force and army not to recur such incidents in the future, the Chief Minister said.</span></p>
