In Manipur, state government is starting 535 new primary schools under the scheme of Serva Siksha Abhiyan(SSA) as per school mapping exercise based on Global Positioning System(GPS) imageries. In an exclusive interview with AIR News, Principal Secretary of the state Education Department Dr. J Sureshbabu said that Manipur is the first state in India to complete school mapping exercise based on GPS imageries. He further said that altogether 2500 lower primary and upper primary school teachers will be recruited by the end of this month for the new primary schools. Dr. Sureshbabu also said that state government is going to recruit another 300 graduate teachers very soon under the Rastriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan(RMSA).Regarding Serva Siksha Abhiyan, we have started 535 new primary schools based on the school mapping. Manipur is the first state in India to complete school mapping exercise based on GPS imageries. We have now put at 535 primary schools and 158 upper primary schools which were upgraded recently. So, we are going to fill up almost all vacancies of 2500 primary and upper primary school teachers by the end of December.Under RMSA, we have upgraded 67 upper primary schools to high schools and we have recruited about 500 teachers for these upgraded schools. During the current year, we are going to upgrade another 49 schools for which state Cabinet’s clearance has already been given. So, we are going to advertise for recruitment of another 300 teachers for these new 49 upgraded schools.The Principal Secretary further said that biometric attendance system will soon be installed at all high schools of the state. He also said that twin residential quarters for teachers are under construction at 250 schools in the hill areas of Manipur. He added that rationalisation of transfer and posting for school teachers will be started implementation from the ensuing academic session.
