The first Omicron variant of COVID-19 has been detected in an international passenger coming from Tanzania to Manipur. The State Health Services Directorate said that the person has been tested positive of COVID-19 on arrival in India. <br />''<br />''Later, his sample was sent for Whole Genome Sequencing to Institute of Bioresource and Sustainable Development (IBSD) at Takyelpat in Imphal and found positive of Omicron variant on Monday.<br />''<br />''The affected person is a resident of Imphal and already on isolation ward in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal. Another three members of his family also said to be positive of the virus.<br />''<br />''Meanwhile, the State Directorate of Health Services requested the public to adhere to COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour and wear masks mandatorily. The Directorate said that as the Omicron variant is spreading fast in various countries, wearing masks has been found effective against all variants of COVID-19.<br />
