MANIPUR- poll COUNTING at eight in the morning

In Manipur, counting of votes for the elections to the 60-member state assembly is starting from eight this morning. Counting will be held in eleven counting centres across the state. Our Imphal Correspondent reports that the stage is set in Manipur for today’s counting of votes for the State Assembly elections.

Candidates in the fray and their counting agents have reached their respective counting centres.Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been promulgated in and around the counting centres by the concerned District Magistrates. Three layers of security covers have been put in place to ensure smooth and peaceful counting of votes.

The entire process of counting will be monitored by the Election Commission through live webcasting and the same will be in the public domain. With this, electoral fortune of 279 candidates including 14 women will be known.
