Manipur High Court declares Okram Henray's election null and void

<span style="color: #222222;">In one of the landmark judgments Manipur High Court declared election of Okram Henray who won in the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly 2017 from Wangkhei assembly constituency null and void. The judgment was heard by a single bench of Justice M. V. Muralidharan of the Manipur High Court today.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In the last General Election held in March, 2017, Okram Henry who contested the election on Congress ticket was declared the MLA after winning the seat with 16753 votes. However, he submitted a resignation letter from the membership of Manipur Legislative Assembly in August last year. He is nephew of former Chief Minister and Congress leader  Okram Ibobi and the Congress party also expelled Okram Henry over an issue of cross voting in the Rajya Sabha election held last year.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> Later the Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh inducted Okram Henry in his cabinet in September last year and held portfolios of Social Welfare, MAHUD and Co-operation. However his term of ministership ended recently after six months in power as he was not elected to the house during the six months period.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">  </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The election petition against Okram Henry was filed by Yumkham Erabot who stood second position in the last general election citing that the former submitted wrong information regarding his educational qualification and pending criminal court cases while submitting election affidavits. The high court announced that the election of Okram Henry was null and void citing the false affidavit.</span>
