In one of the landmark judgments Manipur High Court declared election of Y. Surchandra who won in the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly 2017 from Kakching assembly constituency null and void. The judgment was heard by the bench of Justice M. V. Muralidharan of the Manipur High Court today.<br />''<br />''In the last General Election held in March, 2017, Y. Surchandra who contested as Congress candidate was declared elected, with 11133 votes. However, he left Congress and joined the BJP in April and later he has been disqualified for violation of the 10th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.<br />''<br />''M. Rameshwar of BJP who got 10503 votes in the election and was placed in the second filed a petition against the then Congress MLA Y. Surchandra and a CPI candidate against failure to provide financial assets and property in the election affidavit.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The judgment also mentioned that consequent upon the finding that the election of the first respondent is declared as null and void, the petitioner is entitled to be declared as elected member of Kakching assembly constituency.</span><br />
