Manipur government has selected 1,41,445 students for providing two sets of school uniforms in the current academic year. The free uniforms are being provided to all girls and children belonging to SC/ST and BPL families in government schools up to class eight standards. The selected students include 72,407 girls.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh attended the free uniforms distribution function organised by Samagra Shiksha Manipur at Imphal on Friday.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''Shri Biren said that the state government also provides free books to all girls and children belonging to SC/ST and BPL families in government schools up to class eight standards. Such an initiative would ensure access to better education by children of poor families, he added.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">It may be mentioned that the State government has introduced the School Fagathansi Mission in the State in order to improve the quality of government schools. The enrolment rate in government schools has increased encouragingly since the implementation of the scheme.</span><br />
