In Manipur, the state government is gearing up to forcibly open the economic blockade on the National Highways. The blockade entered its 100th day today and the state is reeling under acute shortage of essential commodities following the indefinite economic blockade along the two life-lines of Manipur, the Imphal-Dimapur and the Imphal-Jiribam National Highways.In view of the hardships faced by the people of Manipur, state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has again appealed to all agitating groups not to further impose any form of disturbance along the National Highways of the state. He further cautioned them that the tolerance limit of the government has already crossed. AIR correspondent says that as the limit of tolerance has crossed, the government has no other alternative but to forcibly open at least one of the National Highways of Manipur.Government has to strike a balance between the concerns of 24 – 25 lakhs of Manipur population and the concerns of one single District. It is sincere appeal to the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee, the United Naga Council, the Jiribam District Demand Committee and other organizations of Manipur from the side of the state government to stop such agitations at the earliest possible. Enough is enough in terms of people’s suffering. Now, the state government has committed to thwart the agitation as the tolerance limit has already crossed.
