In Manipur, New Year’s Day- Sajibu Cheiraoba, is being celebrating on Monday with religious fervor and cultural gusto. Celebrations include, preparation of grand feasts at home, offering well-prepared meal to deities at the entrance of residences before taking lunch and climbing up the nearby hills in the afternoon to pray to deities for a prosperous year. The main ritual activity to welcome the New Year is performed at the Uttara Shanglen – a temple of local deities in the palace complex in Imphal led by the titular King of Manipur.
