In Manipur, the main function for the Indendence day celebration was held this morning at the First Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal where state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh unfurled the tricolor. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, all the stakeholders in the demand of introducing Inner-Line Permit(ILP) system in Manipur should sit together to find an amicable solution to the problem for once and all. He also appealed to the civil society organizations not to misguide the students’ community and womenfolk of the state in the demand. Mr. Ibobi Singh said, the students sparing their valuable time on the agitation of ILP at the cost of their study will not be a right thing. The Chief Minister further said, it is impossible to comply with the demand of alternative arrangement of administration for the Nagas by the United Naga Council in the small state of Manipur. He said, this will open the floodgates to all the communities inhabited in Manipur to demand for their separate administrative set-up.In Imphal, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh appealed to militants to lay down arms and participate in the development programmes undertaken by the government.Independence Day was observed in Manipur amid heavy security deployment in view of a strike called by major insurgent organisations.
