Amidst tight security, Independence Day is being celebrated in Manipur. State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh unfurled the National Flag at the main function held at Imphal this morning. AIR Imphal correspondent reports that in view of the boycott called given by militant outfits, unprecedented security arrangements were made across the state. Thick security blanket was thrown in and around Imphal city particularly where the main function was held.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, during the past 64 years of independence, Manipur has made tremendous stride in the field of development. He however said that serious problems are still here as an impediment to the path of development.
Despite the boycott called by militants and inclement weather condition in the state, people in large numbers turned up at the main function at Imphal and also at all other districts.
