In Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, President Mehbooba Mufti today said the decisive but divisive mandate in the recent elections in the state is not a challenge before the State only but also for the Centre and the later should also come forward for a stable government in the State.
Ms. Mahbooba called on the State Governor N N Vohra at Rajbhawan in Jammu today and held discussions over the issue of government formation in the state. She said her party would not form government in the State just for the sake of power.
The PDP president told media persons that PDP wants a stable government in the State. While invoking development agenda of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, PDP leader said said the mandate is a big responsibility for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She said that during Vajpayee government in the centre a number of people friendly initiatives were taken to address the Kashmir issue.
After one hour long meeting with the governor, the PDP leader said that the divisive mandate in the recent elections in Jammu and Kashmir is not a challenge before the State only but also for the Centre and the later should also come forward for a stable government in the State.
The PDP president added that no party in the State has got the clear majority and her party has emerged as the single largest party with maximum number of MLAs, the talks with other political parties on the issue of government formation are going on.
Tomorrow, BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma along with some of the senior party leaders will meet the Governor and apprise him of the efforts being made by the party to form Government in the State. After a meeting with the Governor in Jammu yesterday, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav had said that talks were still on with PDP and National Conference on the issue.
According to political sources, both PDP and BJP, two largest parties in the State Assembly are trying to gain time from the Governor on their efforts to form next Government in the State as none of the three major parties-PDP, BJP and NC have so far been able to garner the magic figure of 44, required for simple majority in the House of 87, to form the Government.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress President Prof. Saif-Ud-Din also called the Governor and held discussion on the issue.
Meanwhile, National Conference spokesman Junaid Matto has questioned the delaying tactics of the Peoples Democratic Party in formation of the Government.He said that PDP should come forward and form the Government as National Conference and Congress have offered unconditional support to PDP for the formation of the Government.
