Man from Poonch becomes first victim of Black Fungus in J&K

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, a 40 year old man from Poonch district, today became the first victim of Black Fungus as he breathed his last at Govt. Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Jammu. Giving details,  Principal GMC Hospital Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma told AIR Jammu Correspondent that person, who was suffering from Black Fungus, lost his battle with life, this afternoon. She said that the patient was admitted in the GMCH on May 19 and Mucormycosis in him was detected yesterday.  The patient had contracted the disease due to the long term use of steroid drugs. Mucormycosis is a very rare and deadly disease which has mortality rate of 50 to 80 percent. Pertinently, the Black Fungus had made its entry into J&K last year after which at least six people were affected by it of which three died while three others survived.<br />'' <br />
