Mamta to return 400 acres of land to Singur farmers

The new West Bengal Government headed by Mamta Banerjee has decided to return 400 acres of land to farmers at Singur who unwillingly parted with their land for Nano project. This was announced by Mamta Bannerjee after her first cabinet meeting on Friday evening in Kolkata after assuming office. Banerjee said that her government will welcome TATA Group if they agree to set up car factory in remaining 600 acres of land. She said that restoration of peace in the state is her first priority and instructed the administration to work on top priority to recover illegal arms. The state cabinet had also decided to set up a review committee for release of political prisoners. Banerjee also advocated for resolving the ongoing problems in Darjeeling hill and Jungle Mahal. Announcing special development package for the region she said that Government is ready for talk with any group currently agitating in Jungle Mahal. She said the state cabinet has also decided to set up a separate Ministry for speedy implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme and effective distribution of BPL cards.Left Front leaders including Chairman Biman Bose attended the swearing-in ceremony where 37 other ministers were also sworn in. State Governor M. K. Narayanan administered the oath of secrecy and office to her and the new ministers. Of them 36 ministers are from Trinamool Congress and the remaining two from Congress.AIR Kolkata correspondent Arijit Chakraborty reports that former FICCI Secretary General Amit Mitra has given Finance and Partho Chatterjee has got the Industry and Legislative Affairs Ministry in the new cabinet.Earlier, after her historic swearing in today ending the uninterrupted 34-year reign of the Left in West Bengal, Mamta Banerjee set foot her foot again in Writers' Building eighteen years after she vowed never to return there when she was forcefully evicted before Jyoti Basu's chamber while on dharna with a rape victim . It was a sea of humanity on both sides of the street which Mamta Banerjee took to walk from the Raj Bhavan, where she was sworn in as the chief minister, to the state secretariat to take over charge.Men, women and even children fell over each other and jostled for toe-hold along the Council House Street to have a glimpse of the newly crowned chief minister after her electoral triumph against the Marxists.
