In West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress nominee and Chief Minister, Ms. Mamta Banerjee is leading in Bhawanipur Assembly constituency by- election by more than 34000 votes over her nearest CPIM rival Prof. Nandni Mukherjee after 11 round of counting of votes.

The Trinamool Congress also snatched the Bashirhat north Assembly seat from the CPIM. Trinamool Congress candidate Mr. A.T.M.Abdullah defeated his nearest CPIM rival Mr. Subid Ali Gazi by over 30,000 votes in the bye-election in this seat.

The two seats had fallen vacant following the resignation of Mr. Subrato Bakshi of Trinamool Congress and PWD Minister from the Bhawanipur seat and the death of Mustafa bin-Kasim of CPIM in Bashirhat north constituency.
