The Railway Minister, Ms. Mamta Banerjee today inaugurated an automobile hub on railway lines at Shalimar in Howrah in West Bengal. In her inaugural speech, Ms. Banerjee said that apart from this hub, similar auto hubs will also come up in Siliguri, Guwahati, Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kerala and Delhi. She said such hubs would create more business opportunities and generate employment for large number of people. Ms. Banerjee said that through this pilot project the income of the railways would grow by 10 to 15 per cent. She also said that the proposed railway land bank would be used commercially in the public private partnership mode for better commercial gains.
