Mamta demands CBI probe into train derailment; Police confirms Maoists to be behind mishap

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has demanded a CBI enquiry in to the Gyanswari Express train mishap. Talking to news persons in Kolkata, Mamta Banerjee hinted at a political conspiracy behind the mishap. <br/><br/>The Congress has also demanded a thorough and in depth investigation into the incident. The demand was made by West Bengal PCC Chief Pradeep Bhattacharya who visited the accident site on Saturday. The CPI (M) has rejected any insinuations against the Left Party.<br/><br/>The train derailed in Sardiha near Jhargram in West Midnapore district of West Bengal. The death toll in the train derailment by Maoists mounts to 145. More bodies were pulled out from the wreckage as workers cut the bogies mangled in the impact.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports, that the death toll could go up as the S-6 coaches trapped under the engine is yet to be cut open. The work has been hampered by heavy rain in the area. The rope of the crane also snapped while lifting the engine leading to stoppage of work temporarily. Over 250 have been injured, 5 of them seriously.<br/><br/>They have been taken to Kolkata for treatment. <br/>The West Bengal Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh said that Maoists were behind the Janesghwar Express train derailment. Talking to newspersons in Kolkata he said that police have identified the culprits behind the incident. <br/><br/>West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Verma said, most of the bodies have been kept at the Midnapore Hospital and two at the Kharagpur Railway Hospital. Two temporary camps have been set up at the Midnapore Hospital, where relatives of the dead and injured can get information. The motor-man of the Gyanswari Express has lodged a general diary with the Jhargram GRP against unidentified miscreants for the rail disaster.<br/><br/>The Jhargram Superintendent of Police Mr. Sankar Chakraborty told news persons that, the driver had also mentioned about an explosion at the time of derailment. The Railways have decided to halt night running of some important trains in West Bengal and Orissa running through Maoists affected areas. A number of important trains have been rescheduled. Seven trains have been cancelled till Tuesday. <br/><br/>South Eastern Railway has also rescheduled several express trains. Meanwhile the Survivors of the Gyanswari Express derailment incident, arrived Mumbai last night in a special relief train.<br/>
