The participation of the Railway Minister, Ms Mamta Banerjee in Lalgarh rally in West Bengal had its echo in both the houses of Parliament on Tuesday. While the Rajya Sabha witnessed adjournment and walkout by NDA members, the issue also generated heat in the Lok Sabha.In the Rajya Sabha, as soon as the house met for the day, the BJP led opposition demanded suspension of question hour to take up the issue for discussion. This was rejected by the Chair, which led to noisy scenes and heated exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches forcing the adjournment of the house till Noon.When the house reassembled, the Leader of the opposition, Mr Arun Jaitley demanded that the Prime Minister should make a statement. He charged the Trinamool Congress with colluding with the maoists, who are determined to overthrow the democratic set-up in the country. He also alleged that a senior central minister is negating the policy of the Centre in dealing with the issue which is posing a great threat to the internal security of the country.Responding to the points raised by Mr Jaitley, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Prithviraj Chavan said that the government will come back to the house after ascertaining facts. He made it clear that everything cannot be based on media reports.In the Lok Sabha, raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Mr Gopinath Munde of the BJP, wanted the government to explain its position with regard to naxal violence alleging that the Central ministers were speaking in difference voices.He wanted to know whether a CBI enquiry will be ordered as demanded by the Railway Minister, Ms. Mamta Banerjee on the killing of Maoist leader Azad in an encounter.Alleging that the Railway Minister had called for halting the green hunt operation against the maoists, Mr Munde asked the government to spell out its stand in this regard.The Leader of the House, Mr Pranab Mukherjee said that he will ascertain the position from the Railway Minister and he cannot say anything at the moment. The Trinamool Congress leader, Mr. Sudeep Bandopadhyay said that his party is totally opposed to killings.Making a plea to the opposition not to politicise the issue, he said that everyone should cooperate for a positive solution. He said that Ms Banerjee had only sent a message against violence and peace and development in the area.
