The Railway Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee presented the rail budget for the year 2010-11 in Lok Sabha. The highlights of the speech so far are:-<br/><br/>94 Railway stations to be declared as Adarsh Stations to provide more facilities to the passengers. Ten more stations have been identified to be converted into World Class Stations.<br/><br/>For the security and safety, of the passengers, all unmanned level crossings will be manned in five years. Anti-collision device and Train Protection Warning System will be extended to three more zonal railways. Automatic fire and smoke detection system will be provided in 20 pairs of long-distance trains as pilot project.<br/><br/>Twelve companies of women Railway Protection Force, RPF, Mahila Vahini will be raised. Ex-servicemen will be involved to strengthen the RPF. Commonwealth Exhibition train proposed to mark the Commonwealth Games.<br/><br/>For the welfare of the 14 lakh strong railway staff Ms Mamata Banerjee has announced a new scheme of "House for All that will provide residences to all railway employees in the next ten years. 522 hospitals and diagnostic centres, will be set up for them, 50 Kendriya Vidyalayas, 10 residential schools on the pattern of Navodaya Vidyalaya, model degree colleges and technical and management institutions of national importance will be set up. The safety-related retirement scheme will be expended to cover all safety category staff with a grade pay of 1800 rupees. Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana will be extended to all licensed porters, vendors and hawkers, who are from the unorganized sector and are socially challenged. Steps are being taken to set up new coach factories at Rae Bareilly, Kancharapara and Palakkad. She said that West Bengal government provides the land than the railways will be willing to set up a coach factories in Singur.<br/><br/>Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, CLW will be modernized and expended.<br/><br/>She said that the time has come for the business community to come to join hands to build partnership with the railways. Special task force to clear proposals for investments within 100 days.<br/><br/>SMS updates of reservation status and punctuality of trains, SMS updates on the movement of wagons to freight customers, double-decker train-sets matching the best in global standards, in two trains each from Delhi and Kolkata as a pilot project.
