Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee has sought replacement of Railway Minister Mr. Dinesh Trivedi from the Union Cabinet. Ms. Banerjee wrote a letter to this effect to the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh late on Wednesday night.
Ms. Banerjee took this decision after a couple of hours of Mr. Dinesh Trivedi presenting the rail budget in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The rail budget proposed a hike of passenger fares which the Trinamool Congress is opposing. The West Bengal Chief Minister on Wednesday said that the Trinamool Congress is against the hike of passenger fares in Railway and demanded its immediate roll back.
The Congress Core group met at the Prime Minister's residence late on Wednesday night and it is learnt that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had a telephonic discussion with Mamata Banerjee on the issue.
