Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom arrived in New Delhi Sunday evening on a two-day visit to India.<br/><br/>A high level delegation is accompanying Mr Gayoom.<br/><br/>He will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to further strengthen bilateral co-operation.<br/><br/>He will also call on President Pranab Mukherjee and discuss issues of mutual interest. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will also meet the Maldivian President.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports India and Maldives have consistently supported each other in multilateral fora such as the UN, the Commonwealth and the SAARC.<br/><br/>India is a leading development partner of Maldives and has established many of the leading institutions there including Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Faculty of Engineering Technology, and Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies.<br/><br/>It has provided 100 million dollars Stand-by Credit facility to Maldives, including long term loans and revolving credit for trade.<br/><br/>Government also offers several scholarships to Maldivian students under different schemes.<br/><br/>It has also financed a 5.30 million dollar project for Technology Adoption Programme under which around five thousand Maldivian teachers and youth were trained in computer skills.
