The opposition parties in the Maldives unite against the current Maldives government’s stance concerning India. The Ibrahim Solih-led Maldivian Democratic Party and The Democrats under Mohammed Nasheed issued a joint press statement in which the parties expressed concern about the direction of foreign policy by the current Maldives Government. The statement said the current administration appears to be making a stark pivot towards an anti-India stance. It further said that both the MDP and The Democrats believe alienating any development partner, and especially the country's most long-standing ally will be extremely detrimental to the long-term development of Maldives. Further, the statement added that Consecutive governments of Maldives must be able to work with all development partners for the benefit of the people of the Maldives, as the archipelago nation has traditionally done. The statement also mentioned other concerns before the parties, including a lack of transparency in the signing of MoUs with foreign parties among others.
”
”The MDP and The Democrats together have 55 members in the 87-member Majlis.
