The Maldives United Opposition (MUO) led by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), today submitted a motion of no confidence against the Parliament Speaker. The motion cited the Speaker's lack of fairness in conduct of Parliament, blatant disregard of Parliamentary procedures and his role in subverting Maldivian democracy. It also highlighted the Speaker's failure to remain free from political bias, which is preventing parliamentarians from carrying out their duties. <br/><br/>MDP parliamentary leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that the Speaker has played a critical role in enabling President Yameen's attempts to turn the Maldives into a dictatorship. MDP led by former President Mohammed Nasheed has been vehemently opposed to current rule and demanded international community to put targeted sanctions against President Yameen for his alleged efforts to undermine the rule of law.
