Maldives court orders release of former president Yameen

<span style="color: #222222;">Maldives high court on Thursday ordered the release of former President Abdulla Yameen from detention, days before parliamentary elections scheduled for 6th of next month. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Mr Yameen was put under arrest by a ruling of Criminal Court last month in a case involving money laundering allegations and witness tampering. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The High Court order said that the maximum period of detention in such a case is 30 days which expired on the 18th of this month.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> Mr Yameen lost the Presidential elections last year to Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who has promised to be tough on corruption. Mr Yameen's party is the main opposition contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections. </span><br />''
