Malaysia's main Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has been suspended from Parliament for six months after making comments linking the Muslim majority government to Israel. Three of the members of Mr. Anwar’s coalition have also been barred. They had accused the Government of abusing its House majority. A disciplinary committee said Mr. Anwar made misleading statements in Parliament earlier this year. Mr. Anwar suggested that Prime Minister Najib Razak's unity under the banner of one Malaysia was inspired by an Israeli election campaign in 1999 called one Israel. Malaysia has no diplomatic ties to Israel and is a supporter of a Palestinian state. The suspension will bar Mr. Anwar for participating in Parliamentary debates in the lead up to the General Election which is widely expected to be called next year.
