Malayalam film ‘Kutty Srank’ has bagged the best National Film Award for the year 2009, while, ‘Three Idiots’ won it for the best film in the popular category. Announcing the Awards in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said, Paa has won the best Hindi film award. Amitabh Bachchan bags best actor award for his role in Paa. The Nargis Dutt award for best film on national integration has gone to Delhi-6. Farooq Sheikh bagged the best supporting actor award for his role in Lahore. Ananya Chatterjee got the best actress award for her role in the Bengali film Abohoman. Rituparno Ghosh won the best director award for film Abohoman. The best male playback singer award went to Rupam Islam for Mahanagar while Nilanjana Sarkar bagged the best female playback singer award for Houseful. Amit Trivedi wins the best music director award for Dev D and the best lyrics award goes to Swanand Kirkere for the song Behti hawa sa in ‘Three Idiots’.
