Malawi has sought to strengthen its bilateral relations with India in various sectors. Talking to All India Radio in New Delhi this morning, the visiting President Bingu wa Mutharika said that both the countries have age old relations in the field of trade and commerce which is to be expanded further. Mr. Mutharika said that the as the chairman of the African Union, he expects India to strengthen cooperation with the Union. Lauding India's contribution in the field of infrastructure, information and technology, medicine, trade and agriculture, the visiting dignitary said that these areas are of priority to African development in general and to Malawi in particular. AIR correspondent reports that India and Malawi are set to expand their economic cooperation in a big way. A range of topics including Trade and investment, infrastructure, mining and agriculture will dominate the discussions between visiting Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi this afternoon. They will also consider cooperation in small and medium enterprises and human resource development. Several agreements are likely to be signed between the two countries following the delegation level talks. Our correspondent reports, this is Mutharika's first visit to India as President of his country. He had studied at the University of Delhi in the 1960s.He leads a team of six ministers of his cabinet as well as a large business delegation. He will call on President .Pratibha Devisingh Patil, who will host a banquet in his honour this evening. He will also meet Vice-President Mohammed Hamid Ansari .External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj will call on the visiting dignitary. The visiting dignitary was given a ceremonial reception at the forecourts of Rashtrapati Bhawan this morning.
