Making India energy efficient, energy sufficient govt's priority: Piyush Goyal

Power Minister Piyush Goyal today said making India an energy efficient and energy sufficient country is government's priority. Giving away National Energy Conservation Awards on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day, Mr Goyal said energy efficiency and energy conservation are the shared responsibility of everyone. <br/><br/>He said India stands committed to working with rest of the world to ensure growth of renewable energy, conservation and efficiency.<br/>The Minister said it is incumbent on the government to conserve energy and provide the country's youth with jobs by expanding manufacturing sector. Saying that India is already a world leader in wind energy, the Minister asserted that India will become a shining example of energy efficient nation in the years to come. <br/><br/>He expressed confidence that the international interest in the Indian Energy Market will get translated into huge investments coming into India. <br/>Mr Goyal said the procurement cost of LED bulbs has been brought down from 310 rupees to 72.60 rupees in 16 months without compromising on quality. He said government is coming up with a program under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana to install solar street lights in the villages.<br/><br/>The Minister also interacted with school children of various states through video conferencing and urged them to become ambassadors of energy conservation.
