External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today said all efforts are underway to rescue Indian nationals kidnapped in Iraq. She said the government will leave no stone unturned to rescue the Indian citizens.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Ms Swaraj said the Ministry is closely monitoring the situation in Iraq and she is personally supervising it.
Meanwhile, the kidnapping of Indians in Iraq has created panic amongst Punjab based families of those youth who are stranded there.
13 family members from across the state of as many persons trapped in Iraq are meeting the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today evening.
Punjab government has tied up their meeting. Gurpinder Kaur, whose brother Manjinder Singh is in Iraq has told AIR Jalandahr correspondent that she had even received a call from the minister on Wednesday who assured her of everyone including her brother’s safe return.
Meanwhile, the Telephone Helpline setup by the state government is getting frantic calls from depressed parents.
One Jatinder Singh from Jalandhar who has been contacted by the Punjab NRI Sabha President on social media WhatsApp has told him that 700 more Indians are also with him.
