Major political parties underline need to forge consensus for drafting constitution in Nepal

In Nepal, leaders of major political parties have underlined the need to forge broader political consensus and unity among all parties for the successful completion of peace process and task of drafting the new constitution. ‘ CPN (UML) President Jhalanath Khanal said in Kathmandu that the three major parties must to put aside their differences and forge a consensus on completing the peace process. ‘AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that the comments from leaders of major parties for unity and consensus came amid a political crisis in the country, which is without an effective government since the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal in June this year. So far, 12 rounds of voting failed to elect a new Prime Minister with Maoist chief Prachanda having already withdrawn from the electoral race after seven unsuccessful attempts leaving only Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudyal in the electoral race. The next election is scheduled for October 26.
