Nepal's major political parties – Unified CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and the CPN(UML) have discussed ways to take forward the peace process after the departure of UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) in eight days from now without much headway on arriving at a consensus.Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel told newsmen that the meeting arrived at a broad understanding to form a taskforce to activate the Special Committee on integration and rehabilitation of the Maoists combatants.Maoist Vice Chairman Nayaran Kaji Shrestha said his party has proposed formation of a taskforce to discuss the whole gamut of issues relating to peace process and agreement on management and monitoring of arms for the formation of an alternative mechanism that would take up UNMIN's roles after its departure. He said his party will not accept any proposal of the ruling parties that would exclude the state army from of purview of arms monitoring. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that the meeting attended by Maoist Chairman Prachanda, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala and CPN(UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal decided to continue discussions to work out an effective mechanism to take forward the peace process after UNMIN's departure.
