In Tamil Nadu, Coast Guard Southern Region did a major mock exercise on various topics related to pollution response operations including containing oil spill near Chennai Port today. This included fire fighting, towing, containment booming, recovery by skimming,collection and transfer of oil to shore reception facility. In addition to the ships and aircrafts of the Coast Guard, vessels of Chennai and Ennore Port Trust also took part in the coordinated pollution response exercise.About 40 delegates from State Pollution Control Boards, ports and oil handling agencies from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal are attending the exercise along with a host of media personnel.
