Major earthquake rocks Andaman, Nicobar islands, Orissa and TN

<br/>An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale shook parts of Andaman and Nicobar islands,Orissa,Tamilnadu on Tuesday leaving Four persons injured but there was no report of any death or damage. Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman S N Jha told PTI that the epicenter of the earthquake was located at Landfall Island, 221 km north of Port Blair. No tsunami alert is sounded so far. Chief Secretary Vivek Roy said authorities of North Andaman and Defence have been alerted. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the impact was more in northern parts of the island including Mayabandar and Diglipur as they are nearer to the epicenter of the earthquake. Four persons including two women were injured when they fell from the roof of a house in the area. Officials of Disaster Management Control Room said the earthquake struck the archipelago at about 10.24 pm on Tuesday. <br/><br/>People living in the areas came out of their residences in panic but no reports of damage were reported from any part of the archipelago. The tremors also were felt in some parts of Orissa including the state capital on Tuesday night, triggering panic among people.<br/><br/>The meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar said that the tremor was recorded around 10.25 pm on Tuesday. As some places including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur were shaken by the tremor, people were seen moving out of their houses. Many people in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur spent time in the open. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, tremors were also felt in various parts of Chennai but there were no reports of casualty or damage to property. Officials said that the local tsunami warning has not been issued.
