Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena today said he will appoint a committee of experts to consult all stakeholders and advise the government regarding the medical graduates of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM). The President said, the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has submitted their proposals on the SAITM issue after meeting him.<br/><br/>The development came as GMOA comprising of state medical students and doctors opposed the recent court ruling that ordered the Sri Lanka Medical Council to recognize the medical degree granted by the SAITM and allow provisional registrations of its graduates. The doctors have been agitating on the issue organizing protests and demonstrations throughout the country saying that private medical colleges should not be allowed alleging that they are substandard.
