Main draw of ITTF World tour India open begins in Delhi

Matches in the main draw of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Tour India Open started in New Delhi today. This is the country's biggest international event. In women's singles, India's Sutirtho Mukherjee and Mosumi Pal entered the pre-quarter finals of the competition. Sutirtho defeated compatriot Ankita Das 4-nil while Mosumi beat compatriat Manika Batra 4-1.In Men's Doubles, the pair of Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sanil Shetty crashed out of the tournament after suffering a 3-nil defeat at the hands of Japanese pair of Morizono Masakata and Oshima Yuya in the quarter-final. Earlier, the Achanta-Sanil duo had defeated another Japanese pair of Tomokazu Harimoto and Yukia Uda in the first round. The Indian pair of Anthony Amalraj and Gnanasekaran Sathiyan also crashed out of the tournament following defeat in the second round of Men's Doubles at the hands of German duo of Duda Benedict and Mengil Stephin. Amalraj also faced a 0-4 defeat from Japan's Niva Koki in the first round of Men's singles.
