Maiden P1 Powerboat race trophy unveils today
The trophy for the maiden P1 Powerboat Race was unveiled in Mumbai today. The trophy; which will be a rolling one has been made using the propeller of INS Viraat, the longest serving warship of the world.

The trophy assumes more significance as INS Viraat will be decommissioned on Monday, after 30 years of service in the Indian Navy. After unveiling the Viraat Trophy in a small ceremony held prior to commencement of the races, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command said the memory of INS Viraat will live on through this trophy.

Six teams will compete in this maiden Indian Grand Prix of the Seas. These Panther Powerboats manned by a pilot and a navigator will race each other on a 5.2 km long specially designed racetrack in the sea off Mumbai's Marine Drive.

While the mandatory practice runs and qualifying sessions were held on Friday; the real race will take place over the weekend.
