The seat sharing tussle continues between BJP-Shiv Sena and Congress-NCP for the forthcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra. Both the alliances are making efforts to keep their relation intact.
The BJP has sent a fresh proposal to the Shiv Sena, offering to contest 130 seats in the 288-member Maharashtra assembly.
Initially the party had offered to contest 135 seats . Party in-charge of Maharashtra, Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters in New Delhi that it is a very liberal proposal and he hopes that Shiv Sena will consider it. Mr Rudy also said that his party has conveyed to it oldest ally Shiv Sena to offer it those seats on which Shiv Sena never won.
On the other hand , Congress and NCP will meet today to resolve the seat sharing deadlock in the coming assembly election. Speaking to media persons in Mumbai after NCP’s Core Committee meeting, Congress Party (NCP) leader Praful Patel said that NCP is willing to continue its ties with Congress. Mr. Patel said, Congress has shown compliance to take the issue further and leaders of both parties will meet to discuss the seat sharing issue.
He said that NCP wants due share of seats and it is not in favour of accepting Congress’s offer of 124 seats.
Congress Central Election Committee also met in New Delhi yesterday to discuss seat sharing issue.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mr Madhusudan Mistry, AICC general secretary in-charge of the committee said, discussion was held on all 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra.
Mr Mistry said, party president Sonia Gandhi along with Maharashtra Chief Minister, party chief in the state and general secretary in-charge will decide the fate of the alliance.
Meanwhile, party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said, it is optimistic about amicably resolving the standoff on seat sharing with NCP for assembly elections in Maharashtra.
Mr Singhvi told reporters that in the event of break-up of the alliance, Congress is capable of going it alone.
