Mahmoud Abbas urges Middle East Quartet to compel Israel to return to peace

Palestinian authority President Mahmoud Abbas has urged the Middle East Quartet to make decisions to compel Israel to return to peace.In a joint news conference with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, he said that there are only two options- either the negotiations and peace or violence and terrorism, and Palestinians will not choose violence and terror. He asked Israelis to stop settlement and choose the path of peace for their interest and the interest of generations with implementing Road Map plan as per UN resolutions. According to Palestinian News Agency WAFA, the Russian President on the occasion said that his country’s position has always been with the justice and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem. Both leaders discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, particularly the outcome of the peace process deadlock and Palestinian reconciliation. During the visit, several agreements were also signed between the Palestinian and Russian sides in the fields of media, agriculture and sports
