In Sri Lanka, giving a boost to the ruling coalition and Sri Lankan Freedom Party (SLFP), the United National Party (UNP) National Organiser and Central Provincial Council Opposition Leader S.B. Dissanayake today announced his decision to support Mahinda Rajapaksa in the forthcoming Presidential polls.At a press conference in Colombo today, Mr. Dissanayake said that he was disillusioned by his Party’s decision not to field a candidate in the Presidential election and instead supported retired General Sarath Fonseka as the combined candidate of the opposition. While admitting that Sarath Fonseka is a strong candidate, he also said that his coming to power will set a ‘dangerous precedent’ in the political history of the country. S.B. Dissanayake said it was President Rajpaksa who had actually brought peace in the country. He said that he will work very hard to ensure the victory of the sitting Sri Lankan President.
